Hydrogen Economy Report Presented by ABS Energy Research

ABS Energy Research (http://www.absenergyresearch.com/), a leading analysis and research firm covering all aspects of the energy economy, announced their recently completed report on the hydrogen economy. This comprehensive report covers multiple aspects of emerging sustainable energy.

Energy sources/systems, globally, are about to experience immense change. The current carbon-based economy produces about 80% of the world’s energy supply and depends on fossil fuels. However, this resource is not limitless and it produces harmful emissions. This energy source has been developed over about a period of two centuries, but in the next 50 years it will give way to a whole different energy reality. No matter what a person’s view is on global warming or the causes of climate change, everyone agrees that the environment is vital to our future. Currently, only 11% of the world’s energy needs are supplied by renewable sources.

How will the huge amounts of energy needed by modern society be produced in a clean and secure manner? Governments, scientists, and companies have now allocated large R&D budgets to finding the answer. ABS has distilled the tremendous amount of information into a single report.

The “hydrogen economy,” is an emerging sustainable energy source that uses electricity and hydrogen as dominant energy carriers. The supply of hydrogen is potentially limitless and clean. It is currently used in some industrial processes.

Developing the hydrogen economy depends on the development of fuel cells. Fuel cells utilize the chemical energy of hydrogen to produce electricity and thermal energy. A fuel cell is a quiet, clean source of energy. Water is the only by-product, if it uses hydrogen directly. There are many applications for the technology. In a hydrogen economy, vehicles are powered by fuel cells, which are akin to batteries, but they produce electricity with the aid of hydrogen rather than gasoline. Hydrogen can be used for power plants/stations, domestic use, electric and electronic appliances, and transportation.

This ABS report explains what the options for the new energy economy are and how they are progressing. Highlights of the report include: a summary of arguments for and against hydrogen development; a potential time line for the emergence of hydrogen; a glossary of fuel cell terms, as well as a survey of international and corporate research programs; and a survey of emerging uses in transportation and in a range of industrial applications.

This ABS report amounts to more than peering into the future. Hydrogen development has already begun. The future is likely to see the emergence of a combination of existing and new technologies.
